I picked up MCP's Plaid Phonics Level A workbook, and we're going to start moving through that. This evening I quickly reviewed the first section with Nugget (pages 7-65), which is consonant beginning/middle/ending sounds. She had that down cold, so we picked up for real at section 2, short vowel sounds. Nugget mostly knows these, but still sometimes can't pin down the differences between 'a' and 'e', especially. She's moving quickly here, but I figure it's good practice.

Science (BFSU) -- Experiments showing air has weight and takes up space (Lesson A-3).
#1, Air has weight -- Make a balance scale with a ruler, balance deflated balloons on each end. Inflate one balloon, notice that balloon is heavier. Nugget initially thought air had no weight and so the balloons would remain balanced; she was quite surprised when she saw the inflated balloon hanging lower! We recorded our observations.
#2, Air takes up space -- Crumple a paper towel at the bottom of a cup, invert and place in colored water. Remove and notice the paper is dry! Poke a hole in the bottom of the cup so the air can escape, note the water now enters the cup and soaks the paper towel.
